Family Violence

At Camcare we estimate that 80% of our family services cases have the presence or history of family violence.

Camcare’s is committed to advocacy, research and program development for families impacted by violence. Camcare attends the Executive of the Eastern Family Violence Partnership as the representative of the Inner East Integrated Family Services Alliance, and chairs the Boroondara Family Violence Network.

A recent research project, “Talking about Money” focussed on the financial literacy of women impacted by violence and explored what financial resources/information was available to them at critical points in their journey away from violence. The research confirms that financial vulnerability is often a determinant in the decisions women make to stay with men who use violence; trying to ensure that there is no disruption to education and standard of living for children is a common theme. It was found that there is a lack of practitioner confidence in this area, and few financial resources and information for women struggling with such issues.
