The cost-of-living crisis is putting enormous strain on many members of our community. This quarter alone, Camcare had almost 1,500 requests for financial hardship advice.
People come to Camcare for essential services and advice, knowing they will receive non-judgmental and practical support, but in order to continue to support all members in our community, we need your help.
Donations from valued supporters like you ensure that we are able to act swiftly and effectively when someone in our community needs support. Your donation can help someone like Belinda*, a 58-year-old woman who fled her country due to war and knew very few people in her new local area.
Belinda’s story
We first met Belinda when she came to Camcare seeking food relief. She had recently moved in with her daughter, her daughter’s child and partner. Since she had moved in, they could no longer afford to feed the whole family. Belinda went back to her daughter’s house with a food parcel but was reluctant to engage with further support.
A week later, Belinda attended Camcare once again. She shared with us that she had recently escaped a family violence situation.
She said that her experience at Camcare the week before had made her feel safe, and agreed to let us connect her with family violence, accommodation and employment support services. We also supported Belinda to go to the police and successfully advocated for her to get a safety intervention order in place.
